Chocolate Taperia, A Spanish escape

Let's start off this post with one word....CHURROS...Yes Chocolate Taperia is famous for these little babies.

Wikipedia describes Churros as...

A churro, sometimes referred to as a Spanish doughnut, is a fried-dough pastry—predominantly choux—based snack. Churros are popular in Spain, France, the Philippines, Portugal, Latin America (including Spanish-speaking Caribbean islands) and the United States. There are two types of churros in Spain, one which is thin (and sometimes knotted) and the other which is long and thick (porra). They are both normally eaten for breakfast dipped in hot chocolate or café con leche.

>but<
In our Adelaide slang, I would describe them as yummy, hot, cinnamon covered donut sticks.

Chocolate Tapiera serve these bad boys with a dipping sauce of either, berry, caramel or chocolate. ( my favourite is the caramel )
This awesome Spanish dessert hide away has much more than churros though, the extensive menu is filled with tapas , cake's,hot drinks and chocolate truffles.

I did have the pleasure to try the Oscuro Mousse which I would describe as:

A Heston looking inspired dish of dark chocolate mousse, strawberry coulis (sauce), crumbs of honeycomb mixed with pop rocks and "raspberry dust" ( some sort of freeze dried raspberries).

This dessert bar has a beautiful atmosphere with candle's and lamps, sheer curtains dividing the booth's and beautiful copper wall paper.
They have heater's and tables at the front of the restaurant to sit at while waiting to be seated inside.
Like other popular dessert bars (as usual) there is a long wait ahead of you outside before getting a seat. On popular nights you could be waiting up to an hour to be seated ( or in my case almost 2 hours ) This was a huge downside to this place and I believe they should just let you eat at the table you are sitting at outside ( because of my long 2 hour wait, they did give my table a 20% discount off the table to make up for it ).
They do however, do table bookings before 8pm so that you can avoid the long wait.

Now for the location, Chocolate Tapiera is located on Melbourne st just across from The lion Hotel.

The opening hours are:
Mon - Sun:  19:00-00:00

5/168 Melbourne Street, North Adelaide, 5006

Devour Dessert Bar Crazy

Well, here is my first official blog so I thought I would start with my favourite dessert place in the world......DEVOUR DESSERT BAR!
To those who know me, I am quite obsessed with this place and cannot say enough good things.

To start, this little dessert bar on prospect road, is dim lit, warm and cosy with friendly staff and a rustic homely feel.
If you have just had dinner with friends or want to go on a romantic date, this place really has an awesome atmosphere.
Usually on any night you have around a 20 minute wait to get in IF you go there after 8.30pm but the food is worth the sit in the cold. ( which is the only down side to devour, it is very popular )
Like most popular dessert bar's ,the condition is its one menu item per person as there are usually around 10 people waiting outside to get in.
... oh and there is no booking tables.

Now we come to the good part...the food.
Devour usually has a small menu of around 6 or 7 desserts which they only keep on said menu for 2 months ( which means you have an excuse to go there every month to try something different) but they usually have all the same drinks ( tea , coffee ect).
If you are going to have any sort of drink with dessert, you MUST try the milk shake's there, specially the malteser milk shake, they are sooo yum and come in old school glass milk bottles.
My favourite dishes have been :

PB&J panna cotta - A  creamy burnt milk panna cotta, with a blackberry gel and a crunchy peanut butter crumb ( which is out of this world ), served with a PB&J macaron.

>and<
Ice cream sandwich-   Coconut ice cream filled with toasted coconut, sandwiched between chocolate biscuit, served with cherry sauce ,chocolate crumb and sour cherries (It's sour, sweet and sexy)

Each dessert is made beautiful and creative, every time you order a dessert from Devour you are never left disappointed and always end up in amazement on how awesome it looks on the plate.

The opening hours are:

Tue - Thu:18:00-22:30
Fri - Sun:18:00-23:00

Dessert Bar's

You are bored, it's 7pm on a Sunday and you are craving dessert but not wanting that run to Mc Donald's for the new Mc Flurry that is a little blegh.
After watching SA life and hearing that Adelaide has such place's called 'dessert bar's' you decide to check one out.
This then turns to an addiction, each week you must go to the next dessert bar you have just found out about .... they are popping up EVERYWHERE!!!!!

^ ^ ^ ..Hey there, My name is Kiera, and I am a dessert bar-aholic
It's been 1 day since my last dessert bar and I am feeling a little guilty about it.
Last night it was The Elephant walk on Melbourne st for the amazing Rocky Road Waffle (which is nice but impossible to finish) ,where we got friendly service in a tropical hide away with complementary throw rug's to keep us warm ( big thumbs up to that ).

Last week it was The Aviary on the Parade in Norwood, we had heard good thing's about it so had to check it out.
After driving past the place about 5 time's , we decided to walk up the Parade and find it ( a lame attempt at exercising ).
In side this pretty 2 story dessert bar, I tried the Eton Mess, It didn't look like much but boy was it awesome, It involved nutella mousse (which I had never heard of but now want every day).
They also had a peanut butter hot chocolate, It is surprisingly good and just has the after taste of peanut butter.

Weeks before that, it was the Chocolate Taperia, Eggless,Chocolate Bean and Devour.

From this I have decided it would be best to start a Blog about all the dessert bar's and restaurants I love around Adelaide so that others may hear about these awesome place's and no longer see Adelaide as " That boring city of nothing ".
